2:00 PM on January 28th
In 1736, iron ore was discovered in the wilderness that is now Sterling Forest State Park. The ore found here was of high quality - in fact the quality was such that during the American Revolution, the Continental Army commissioned Noble, Townsend & Company’s Sterling Iron Works to manufacture the Great Chain that was placed across the Hudson River at West Point. Join Doc Bayne, local historian and iron mining authority, for a PowerPoint presentation on the fascinating history of the Sterling mines.Registration is required for all programs.
