Palisades Interstate Parkway, NY-NJ

In August 1999, the Palisades Interstate Parkway was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The parkway is a scenic road that extends 42 miles north along the west side of the Hudson River from Fort Lee, New Jersey, through Rockland County, Harriman State Park, and into Bear Mountain State Park, ending at the Bear Mountain Bridge. The parkway marked the completion of PIPC's original mission to preserve and restore the dramatic escarpment along the lower west bank of the Hudson River. It retains its pivotal recreational role connecting the New York City metropolitan area with the vast expanse of the Palisades Interstate Park, and it remains an important component of the New York State Hudson Valley park and parkways system.
