Washington's Headquarters, Newburgh, NY

George Washington's 16-month stay at the Jonathan Hasbrouck house in Newburgh marked his longest tenure at any of his headquarters during the Revolution. In 1850, the sturdy Dutch-style stone house became the first publicly operated historic site in the United States. It is furnished with period pieces and reproductions to reflect Washington's stay. An adjacent museum contains military artifacts.
