Rebuild a Home for Delbert Trailside Museums and Zoo has initiated an exciting plan for the upper reaches of this unique park preserve. Embracing the Museums' philosophy of "Total Environmental Interpretation ... Past, Present, and Future," the concept combines a revived presentation of historic (1777) Fort Clinton with a series of natural wildlife exhibits. Environment I: The Otter Habitat is a Trailside priority. A viewing deck and a holding pen/equipment building will be constructed as part of this project. A complete water treatment system will be added. Environment II: A Beaver Habitat will share the same viewing deck, holding pen/equipment building, and water treatment system with the Otter Habitat. This exhibit may either be completed concurrently or subsequently as available funding allows. Environment III: The Deer and Turkey Habitat will be re-located to a larger site incorporating the wetland area. Environments IV and V: Birds of prey will be moved from their existing enclosures, which now conceal Fort Clinton's parapet wall, to new flight cages on either side of the rampart. Exhibits will then be added to interpret this historic site. Construction of an Insect Museum will complete the educational complex. |
