FROM THE NORTH VIA THE N.Y.S. THRUWAY:

Take I-87 south to exit #16 (Harriman) and then take the first exit, exit #131, just past the tollbooths. At traffic light at top of ramp turn left onto Rt. 17 South. Proceed 7.25 miles and take a right ramp at traffic light to Rt. 17A. At top of ramp and stop sign turn right. Follow Rt. 17A west 1.4 miles and turn left onto Long Meadow Road (County Rt. 84). Proceed 3.5 miles and turn right onto Old Forge Rd. The Visitor Center will be on your right.

FROM THE SOUTH VIA THE N.Y.S. THRUWAY:

Take I-87 north to Exit 15A (Sloatsburg/Suffern). At traffic light (end of ramp) turn left onto Rt. 17 north. Proceed 1 mile to ramp on right for County Rt. 72, which is also labeled for Ringwood, Sterling Forest, and W. Milford. Follow County Rt. 72 west 2.9 miles. At the first traffic light turn right onto County Route 84 (Long Meadow Rd.) Go 3.4 miles and turn left onto Old Forge Rd. The Visitor Center will be on your left..

FROM THE WEST VIA ROUTE 17 (Future I 86):

Coming east on Rt. 17, take exit #131, the last exit before NYS Thruway tollbooths. At light at top of ramp turn right onto Rt. 17 South. Proceed 7.25 miles and take a right ramp at traffic light to Rt. 17A. At top of ramp and stop sign turn right. Follow Rt. 17A west 1.4 miles and turn left onto Long Meadow Road (County Rt. 84). Proceed 3.5 miles and turn right onto Old Forge Rd. The Visitor Center will be on your right.

FROM THE EAST VIA BEAR MOUNTAIN BRIDGE:

Follow Rt. 6 west. After descending a long prominent grade and crossing over the NYS Thruway, take right ramp labeled Rts. 17 & 32 – Harriman. At light turn left onto Rt. 17 South. Proceed 7.25 miles and take a right ramp at traffic light to Rt. 17A. At top of ramp and stop sign turn right. Follow Rt. 17A west 1.4 miles and turn left onto Long Meadow Road (County Rt. 84). Proceed 3.5 miles and turn right onto Old Forge Rd. The Visitor Center will be on your right.

NOTE: Not all large green and white highway signs that just say "Sterling Forest" will point you here! However, you can follow all the small green and white signs that say "Sterling Forest State Park Visitor Center".
