Join The Palisades Parks Conservancy

Membership brings with it a sense that you are part of a challenging and exciting adventure; that you have done something important for the conservation of open space and the enhancement of education and recreation programs for millions of people.
Ensure an Enduring Legacy
Gift and Legacy Planning
Planned giving programs include: cash, securities, charitable bequests, retirement accounts and the transfer of personal property. You may find that including the Palisades Parks Conservancy in your will allows you to make a more significant contribution than is possible during your lifetime.
Creating a simple monetary bequest may be as easy as adding this statement to one's will:
I give and bequest the sum of _________________ dollars to the PalisadesParks Conservancy, located in Rockland County, NY.
Bequests are also useful planning tools to guard against the unexpected and to ensure that an asset passes to a beneficiary of choice.
Create A Life Income Plan:
A life income arrangement may be the ideal way for you to make a substantial gift during your lifetime and still protect your own personal and financial needs. The annuity concept is quite simple: the investor makes an irrevocable contribution of cash and/or securities and in return the investor is paid an income for life. After death, the remaining principal will pass to the Palisades Parks Conservancy to be used as instructed by the investor.
Retirement Plan Assets:
Retirement plan assets may be donated to a charity, either during one's lifetime, or upon one's death.
Property:
Donating appreciated stock to charity may result in significant tax advantages.
Life Insurance:
Similar to a savings bond, a gift of life insurance policy enables one to give something that is eventually more valuable than one's out-of-pocket cost.
Trusts:
Charitable trusts can be structured to suit varied needs and goals – they can generate fixed or variable income for the donor or others for a period of years or a lifetime, and at their termination, the principal of the trust passes to a designated charity. Charitable trusts can generate fixed or variable income to a designated charity for a period of years or a lifetime, and at the end of the term, revert to the donor or his or her heirs. Such trusts also can be funded with cash, securities, real estate, life insurance, etc.
The Palisades Parks Conservancy, Inc. is not engaged in rendering legal or tax advisory service. Please notify your attorney or other professional advisor for advice or assistance in specific cases.

Adopt a Zoo Animal or Trailside Museum

Sammy, Trailside's bald eagle
The purpose of this program is to raise money for projects that are either not funded or not fully funded by New York State.
The program gives people the opportunity to contribute by "adopting" a Trailside Zoo animal or sponsoring a Museum. You can choose from a wide variety of animals, from Samantha the bald eagle to Fred, the porcupine. Our museums tell the stories of local history, geology, natural science and reptiles and amphibians.
All monies donated will be used for the benefit of the Zoo or Museum exhibits.
Adopt an animal or a museum and receive the following free gifts!
· An adoption certificate
· A photo of your adopted animal or building with specific information about the individual animal or building on the back.
· A fact sheet with more interesting information about your animal species or the history or Trailside.

Legacy Bench Program

GUIDELINES FOR THE DONATION OF BENCHES TO BE PLACED WITHIN PIPC ENVIRONS
The Palisades Interstate Park Commission is pleased to offer to the public the opportunity to participate in its legacy bench program. PPC offers different designs, each suited to a particular park or historic site setting. The benches vary from original rustic designs handcrafted from local materials, to simple cast metal.
This is an excellent way to honor a friend or family member while also supporting their favorite Palisades Park. Tax deductible donations begin at $1,500 per bench (depending on style specific to each park and historic site - knickerbocker $1,500; classical $2,000, and rustic $2,500.) The donation includes the bench, a brass plaque (size will vary with style of bench selected,) and permanent installation.
While there are three styles available to choose from, the style of bench will be at the discretion of the Park. Historic Sites may have a different style than park settings, and individual parks also have their own style guidelines.
The permanent brass plaque contains the name of the person being remembered preceded by "In Honor of…" or "In Loving Memory of…" and, if requested, a significant date. Or, the plaque may have a message of up to 25 characters on each of three or four lines. (The message will be inscribed subject to review by the Commission.) The rustic and "knickerbocker" style benches use a 4" x 6" brass plaque that can support up to six lines of text, 20 characters per line, while the classical teak garden style bench offers a 2" x 8" plaque that can support up to four lines of text, 30 characters per line.
While the Commission will make every effort to accommodate final placement requests, PIPC may not be able to accommodate a donor's first or second placement choice due to certain restrictions and facility needs. While it does guarantee placement of the bench within the requested park, final placement of benches is at the discretion of PIPC and the Park facility manager.
Should a request for a location be unavailable due to park or other restrictions, other memorial donations may be applicable, e.g. trees, birdhouses, or other landscape features.
Upon receipt of the donation, the Park will order the bench, the plaque, and schedule installation. This process may take 4-6 weeks.

Special Gift Opportunities
Each contribution to Palisades Parks has an impact on the future of this great resource. Many opportunities exist to demonstrate leadership support for our rehabilitation and conservation programs.
We have listed some ideas below that may inspire you.
Adopt an Animal. Help feed or enrich our terrific zoo residents. Trailside Museums and Zoo specializes in the care of non-releasable animals.
Conserve our Archive Collection. PIPC has over 100,000 photo and paper artifacts that need to be professionally scanned, stored, and catalogued.
Restore an Object at One of Our Historic Sites. Contribute towards the restoration of any one of many important decorative objects found at our eight historic sites.
Sponsor an Exhibition. PIPC's goal is to show more of our collection on a regular basis.
Plant a Tree or a Garden. PIPC planted thousands of trees, shrubs, and flowering plants as it developed its parks. Many have been lost to storm, age, or disease. Your donation may fund replacements at a park or historic site according to planned landscapes.
Buy a Camper a Book. Purchase a number of books that will enchant our group campers as we kick-off a Summer Reading Program .
Restore our Minnewaska Carriage Roads. Your contribution can help rebuild Minnewaska State Park Preserve's 25 miles of carriage roads in need of restoration.
Build the Grand Entrance into Bear Mountain State Park. We need to let visitors know they have arrived and they need to know where to park and find a cold drink. Help sponsor the main gateway and improved signage into this popular park.
Purchase a Memorial Bench. An excellent way to honor a friend or family member and support your favorite park.
Rehabilitate our Waterfronts. 2009 marked the Hudson River's Quadricentennial. Support the rehabilitation of our docks and waterfront facilities.
